Pete Archers Rolfslake Invitation 2nd August 2009.

Pete Archer 3rd place today.

Today a few lucky friends and invited guests turned up from as far as Liverpool and the Isle of Wight to celebrate Pete Archers birthday who did not look a day over fifty.
Most of the invited anglers were from the Match Fishing Scene's website and this gave them a chance to meet friends they only knew by their user name {and some names were quite unusual}. Also Rolfslake has now become a place of beauty that anglers are happy to bring their wives along instead of trying to get away from their nearest and dearest as the lake now provides all facilities that a lady could want.
The format for the day was each angler would bring a tackle gift to the value of £10 in addition to their pools and the match would be split into three sections , section A would be pegs 38, 40 ,2, 4 ,6 ,9 ,10 ,11 section B would be pegs 34, 8 ,16 ,26 ,28 ,30 and 32 and finally section C would be pegs 13 ,14, 18 ,19 ,21 ,22 , 24 and 26.There was to be a top three payout and three section winners by default and with a lucky dip raffle at the end the anglers were very eager to get going.
As Pete Archer and myself were regular anglers at the lake we decided to have the last two pegs to give eveyone a chance of a good draw, and as each angler drew their pegs we were asked lots of questions as to the methods required to fish each one and the bait required. When the anglers started to make their way to their pegs it was time for Pete and i to draw so when he drew peg 11 it left me with small lake peg 34 in the corner and i was off to it faster than than Linford Christie.
My fishing partner in crime John Bennett was very poorly today so could not
fish so it was left to Pauline ,Paul ,Pete and myself to ensure that the anglers were o.k and had everything they needed to start fishing {including the fishery only nets}.
As the match started i had a good view of all the anglers in the small lake and like last week when i drew peg 34 could see Pete G on peg 8 into fish straight away. For the rest of us it was a slow start with only the odd fish being caught so no one was pulling away. In the big lake only Nick Merry on flyer peg 16 on the motorway bank was catching at regular intervals alternating between a five metre line staight out fishing paste and the bush to his left about half way again also fishing paste. Apart from Pete G and Nick the only other angler putting a weight together was Pete Archer on newly pruned peg 11 and who was fishing the bush to his left and over the bush into peg 12 fishing on the deck just past the first shelf using banded and

soft pellet but feeding very heavy to keep the fish in his peg. Around the lake fishing was slow and even the rare sighting of John Bennett out of the caravan did nothing to improve the catch rate.
As it got late into the early evening the carp started to have a feed and anglers all around the lake could be seen playing fish which made the long trip worth while even if Rolfslake fished a little on the moody side today. After the all out was called and the anglers packed their tackle away all of the 23 anglers got involved in the weigh-in ,which was great to see and as we went around the lake apart from Nick ,Pete G and Pete Archer it was going to be a close match as the difference of one lost fish could drop you 6 places.
The winner today was Nick Merry on peg 16 who caught fish from both inside swims using paste and ended up with 215-04. In second place was Pete G on peg 8 who caught at 6 metres ,8 metres and fishing across fishing on the deck and shallow using pellet hookbait but feeding regular and after 5 hours had put 188-08 on the scales. Completing the frame was Pete Archer on 11 and he had 179-00.

The anglers would like to thank Pete Archer for the invitation and a great day out, John and Pauline Bennett for preparing Rolfslake to a fantastic standard, and Paul J for helping sorting the nets and helping the anglers.

Me Eddie Taylor-Green with a common 12-12

As far as my match went it was a case of right peg wrong angler as my match comprised of correct feeding ,fish blowing then foulhooking a fish then losing it. After about 3 hours i landed a fish of about two pound which moved my keepnets apart about three feet, and when i baited with paste for my next put in it fell out of my pole cup and into the margins about 2.5 metres out and would you believe it the float just kept going with a fish of 13lb on the end. After weighing the fish i had another go between the keepnets and on my next put in with my X4 paste the float kept going again this time with a carp of 9-12 attatched. TrueBlue on peg 6 must of thought i was mad fishing at 2 and a half metres but at the end of the match i ended up with 148-04 and fourth place so maybe not so mad after all.

Until the next report tight lines Eddie.
