Rolfslake Wednesday Open 16th September 2009.

The only fish that Jon has not caught at Rolfs .

Firstly i would like to wish Pauline Bennett a speedy recovery from her broken ankle last week, so John will have no partner to help him cut the grass or make the tea .

After the big weights from last week the usual suspects were in attendance in this weeks Wednesday's open and expectations were high for a good days fishing. The weather today was a cold north easterly wind which was going to make fishing long a real challenge for all the anglers , so a rod was also going to be needed today if you were going to try and get to them in the middle of the lake.
With the unbeatable form of Jon Walker down on the lake at the moment the anglers were willing him to have a bad draw and he obliged by drawing flyer peg 16 one of his favourite pegs, so it was going to be catch-up for the rest of them. The magician aka John Bennett had amazingly drawn peg 9 again so his tackle was there waiting for him from last week with the rigs already plumbed up and ready to go.
As the match started it was apparent that the fish were not going to respond to heavy feeding as you would catch a couple fish then they would back off, so a measured sensible feeding patern was the order of the day. Pete Archer on peg 14 was catching a few carp on the pole but a change to the tip fished with worm and meat increased the amount of fish he was catching. The anglers that stuck with the pole were struggling to control their rigs as the tow on the lake was very strong. John Bennett on peg 9 was fishing short at 6 metres but instead of fishing with his favoured paste bait was today using corn ,pellet and meat fished on the deck but lifting and dropping his rig to get bites.
Jon Walker on peg 16 started off long with not much success but a change to the tip fished on top of the bar towards peg 24 brought him more bites and fish, but had to keep changing the length of his hooklink from 12 inches to two feet to keep the bites coming. His bait on the tip was corn and pellet 6mm which gave him bites ranging from small movements of the tip to the rod slamming round but still the same result another fish in keepnet. A change to a 6 metre line later in the match fished with paste brought Jon more big carp {his on the board weight was 150lb } and he ended up with 220-12 for another match win {well done Jon}.
In second place was John Bennett with 152-08 and completing the frame was Vespe sponsored Pete Archer with 149-04 who if he had gone on the tip earlier would of been challenging for the win.
